New York, NY–The Medicare Rights Center will honor Carol Raphael, President and CEO of the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, at its 2011 Awards Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental, New York, on Monday, October 17, at 6:00 p.m.
For over two decades, the Medicare Rights Center, a national nonprofit consumer service organization, has worked to ensure access to affordable health care for older adults and people with disabilities through counseling and advocacy, educational programs and public policy initiatives.
“We are proud to celebrate Carol Raphael, who has dedicated her professional life to improving the health care system in our country,” said Joe Baker, president of the Medicare Rights Center. “Her efforts have strengthened American health care now and positioned us well for future challenges, including an ever-growing population of older adults.”
Kathy Greenlee, who serves as Assistant Secretary for Aging at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will deliver a keynote address. Ms. Greenlee oversees a collection of programs and services that improve the lives of millions of older adults in various ways—for example, by helping them to continue living in their homes, recognize and report Medicare fraud and abuse, and access nutritious meals on a regular basis.
Perri Peltz, former co-anchor at WNBC News, will serve as Master of Ceremonies at the event. Receiving special recognition are volunteer Rob Mencher, for his nearly six years of dedicated service at Medicare Rights, and Lois Steinberg, PhD, who developed and launched the award-winning Seniors Out Speaking (SOS) program.
The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 6:00 p.m., with dinner to follow at 7:00 p.m. All proceeds from the Awards Dinner will go toward supporting the work of the Medicare Rights Center.Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are still available.
