The Medicare Rights Center launched a Spanish version of its Medicare Interactive (MI) website this past winter. Medicare Interactive is a free and independent online reference tool that includes an array of educational resources designed to help people with Medicare, their families and caregivers, and the professionals who serve them navigate the complex world of health insurance.
After English, Spanish is the most common language spoken in the U.S., so translating Medicare Interactive pages into Spanish has been an important and longstanding strategic goal. Last spring, the education department began work with an outside consultant to translate into Spanish several popular consumer education pages. For pages in English that are also available in Spanish, users now have the option to click on “Español” in the upper right corner to toggle between the two languages.
Currently, over a quarter of pages in the “Get Answers” section of MI have been translated into Spanish, and more will be added in the coming months. The Get Answers section provides a comprehensive overview of the Medicare program, including Medicare coverage basics, enrollment rules, help affording Medicare costs, and how Medicare works with other insurance, which are some of the most commonly asked questions from clients.
The launch of MI in Spanish expands access to Medicare Rights’ information and assistance for people with Medicare, caregivers, and professionals who speak Spanish or serve those who speak Spanish. Medicare Rights provides helpline counseling in Spanish (and other languages) and has also translated the majority of its helpline follow-up materials into Spanish. All of this content helps fulfill Medicare Rights’ strategic objective to expand services to underserved populations in New York and nationally.
