Fall Open Enrollment, which occurs each year from October 15 to December 7, is a critical time for people with Medicare to review and change their coverage for the next year.
Thanks to ongoing support from our donors, our dedicated staff and volunteers can provide accurate and unbiased information, advocacy, and assistance to thousands of people who are looking to make plan changes during this enrollment period. Here are some of the ways we made a difference this past fall:
- Helpline call volume increases dramatically during Fall Open Enrollment. Our expert counselors answered questions and addressed enrollment concerns for about 1,800 people with Medicare and many more through Medicare Interactive.
- Counselors helped beneficiaries complete Part D plan comparisons using the Medicare.gov Plan Finder tool to find the best fit for their prescription drug needs. On average, those assisted through Plan Finder will save approximately $660 annually on plan and prescription costs in 2023 by changing plans.
- As part of our role in the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) and the New York State Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP), our counselors assisted with Medicare Advantage plan comparisons using Plan Finder to help people with Medicare evaluate plan costs and verify plan networks to make sure their preferred doctors and providers are still participating since network information can be inaccurate.
These services reflect the real impact that donors have made on the lives of people who depend on Medicare for their health care. We are so grateful for their continued partnership and trust in our mission. Their generosity makes our work possible and meaningful.
