At the Medicare Rights Center, our mission is clear: we are here to protect, strengthen, and improve Medicare so that older adults and people with disabilities have the health care they need and deserve. Every day, we see the positive impact Medicare can have on people’s lives, and we work to make it more accessible, more affordable, and more effective for our clients and all beneficiaries.
The recent eligibility expansion of New York’s Medicare Savings Program (MSP) is a powerful example of what is possible when we work together to improve health care access. One million New Yorkers are now enrolled in the MSP, a program designed to help older adults and people with disabilities living on limited incomes afford their Medicare coverage. By covering Medicare Part B premiums and reducing Part D prescription drug costs through the federal Extra Help program, enrollment in the MSP provides vital financial relief and can save enrollees more than $8,000 each year.
These are more than just numbers. For many people, that $8,000 in savings means more than just dollars in the bank—it means less stress, more stability, and the ability to focus on staying healthy without constantly worrying about the costs.
We are proud to be part of this milestone and will work to build upon it. Medicare is a lifeline for millions of Americans, and we must ensure it remains robust and resilient, meeting the needs of current and future generations. We must keep pushing to advance programs that benefit the underserved, like the MSP, bolster Medicare services to reduce health disparities and improve quality outcomes, and advocate for changes that make Medicare stronger and more accessible for everyone.
This is why I call on everyone who believes that health care is a human right to join us and ask you to support our initiatives to help people access the care they need. We are committed more than ever to providing timely, accurate, and high-quality counseling and information for people with Medicare and their families and to driving lasting change through public policy and advocacy.
Together, we must keep Medicare strong and ensure it serves as a source of security and stability for future generations.
Thank you for your support and dedication.
