Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) to Jointly-Release 150,000 Petition Signatures Against Cuts to Medicare
—Progressives stand united against cuts to Medicare–
Washington, DC—U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) will co-host a telephone press conference call with Medicare Rights Center’s Stacy Sanders and Social Security Works Research Director Dr. Ben Vegthe (Vek-Tee) for local and national reporters on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at 11 am (EST) to release 150,000 petition signatures against means testing Medicare.
Americans receiving Medicare are in no position financially to afford further means testing of the program. Although the President has made many positive steps concerning Social Security and Medicare in his recent budget, we want to make sure that the other voices—those whom are dependent on Medicare—are also heard.
The people have already rejected so-called structural reforms, which simply shift the burden of Medicare cuts to beneficiaries. Over 150,000 Americans have signed our petition urging the President to drop support of Medicare cuts.
