Medicare Rights strongly condemns the shameful violence and destruction at the U.S. Capitol, as well as those who incited and enabled it. From our offices in Washington, D.C. and New York, we continue to be deeply concerned about the safety and wellbeing of lawmakers and staff in the Capitol, and deeply troubled by the woefully inadequate security plan and response.
The law enforcement response yesterday stands in stark contrast with the intimidating and extreme tactics that were consistently deployed in advance of and during the lawful and peaceful civil rights protests that occurred throughout last year. We remain in solidarity with those impacted by these recent and collective traumas, and all who are calling for justice, accountability, and change.
For more than 30 years, Medicare Rights has fought to ensure access to affordable health care for older adults and people with disabilities. We are committed to this work, and to addressing the systemic inequities and attitudes that threaten to undermine it.
